Elopements vs. Micro Weddings-What’s the Difference?
Micro Wedding or Elopement?
It’s an ongoing debate in the wedding world- what actually makes something an elopement versus a micro wedding? And honestly, there’s no single “right” answer. But for us, the difference comes down to guest count, flow of the day, and overall experience.
A modern elopement is not just a tiny wedding- and it’s definitely not just a “run away and get married” scenario anymore. Elopements usually involve a very small guest count, with a focus on the ceremony and (maybe) a short celebration afterward, rather than a full reception.
A micro wedding, on the other hand, often still feels very much like a wedding- just on a smaller scale. Guest counts are a little higher than an elopement and the experience will often include traditional wedding elements, like guest seating, tables, linens, florals, a planned timeline, and familiar reception moments. Micro weddings typically unfold over a longer portion of the day and allow more room for connection, celebration, and structure- while still keeping things intimate and intentional. They’re perfect for couples who want a small guest list, but a full wedding experience.
